Press Release | Cloud Technology ETF expands holdings to 100 to better represent the fast-growing Cloud ecosystem

  • HAN-GINS Cloud Technology Equal Weight UCITS ETF (SKYY) has rebalanced, increasing its number of holdings to 100.
  • This allows SKYY to be even more representative of the cloud ecosystem and reduces concentration risk.
  • SKYY is the only SFDR article 8 cloud technology ETF in Europe.[1]

July 2023, London

HANetf, Europe’s first and largest independent white-label ETF and ETC platform, and leading provider of digital asset ETPs, is delighted to announce that HAN-GINS Cloud Technology Equal Weight UCITS ETF (SKYY) has undergone a rebalance, increasing its number of holdings from 75 to 100.[2]

SKYY is now well placed to be even more representative of the fast growing cloud ecosystem. The additions add diversification as each constituent will represent 1% at rebalance, reducing concentration risk.

Among the new holdings is Zoom, which saw a surge in popularity during the COVID-19 Pandemic as vast portions of the global population had to work from home. But post-pandemic, the remote working trend has remained, as an increasing number of companies embrace hybrid working.

Baidu is also being added. Beyond its cloud technology service, Baidu Wangpan, the company is also known for its work on artificial intelligence, a topic that has been of great interest in 2023 so far. Baidu announced at the end of May that it would soon launch Ernie 3.5, a generative AI large-language model which will power its Ernie Bot app, akin to ChatGPT.

SKYY provides greater global exposure than other comparable cloud ETFs, with its US weighting at 77.49%. It has also outperformed MSCI World year-to-date, returning ~25% vs. the latter’s ~15%.

SKYY is the only article 8 cloud computing ETF, as designated by the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR).[3]

Anthony Ginsberg, manager of HAN-GINS Cloud Technology Equal Weighted UCITS ETF (SKYY) comments on some of the new additions:

“We’ve added Akamai Technologies, a US content delivery network (CDN), cybersecurity, and cloud service company, providing web and Internet security services. It has a network of over 240,000 servers deployed in more than 120 countries. These servers reside in more than 1,500 of the world’s networks gathering real-time information about traffic, congestion, and trouble spots.

“Akamai helps increase the speed of e-commerce transactions, business software downloads and video streaming to mobile devices. Well known clients include – the BBC iPlayer using Akamai to stream its recorded and live programs, focused through an XML playlist.

“Another addition is Splunk, a US company that produces software for searching, monitoring, and analysing machine generated big data via a Web-style interface.

“Splunk’s core offering collects and analyses high volumes of machine-generated data. Splunk has also further expanded its Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning capabilities to deliver a modern IT Operations suite – includes infrastructure monitoring, service monitoring and automation. As the world goes digital, big data is only getting bigger.  Making sense of that data via AI is seeing exploding growth. Splunk is well placed to benefit from this trend.

“Zoom Video Communication has also been added. As well as its telephony application, it offers an open platform allowing 3rd-party developers to build custom applications on its unified communications platform.”

Hector McNeil, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of HANetf, comments: “SKYY’s rebalance is significant for the fund, making it well placed to capture the cloud technology sector, which has made great strides this year. HANetf is committed to offering pure-play thematic exposure, and rebalances such as these allow us to ensure that our ETFs best represent the themes they are designed to capture.”
